Swimright Pool Service & Repair professionals offer diving board and slide safety tips

Do you have a diving board or a slide in your swimming pool? If you don’t already, are you considering having one or both installed this summer? They are fun, but they are also pool accessories that need care and caution and safety rules in place for the safety of all who use them.

Many pool owners view a diving board as an add-on to the pool fun but, according to the swimming pool service contractors from Swimright Pool Service & Repair,  they are the cause of many backyard mishaps. One caution that pool contractors offer is for the pool owner to routinely check that the board is secure before anyone uses it. Your pool contractor will check it during his service visit, but you should check it before anyone uses it. What are you looking for?  You need to ensure that none of the hardware has become loose and that there are no cracks in the foundation securing it. You will also want to pay attention that the sand paper is still viable; if not it could be slippery and anyone using the diving board could fall and get injured.

Here are top diving board safety tips:swimming pool slide

  • Use diving boards the way they are intended – one person at a time
  • Make certain the water is deep enough for diving. NOTE: if your pool isn’t legally deep or wide enough, your pool contractor will not install it
  • Never dive alone.
  • Stay out from under the board when someone is on it.
  • Know the weight limits of the board.
  • When you jump away from the board jump far enough away so you don’t hit your head.
  • Don’t run on the board – it can be slippery and you could slip and fall.
  • Avoid the diving board – and the pool – if you’ve been drinking.
  • Don’t dive from the board if the pool is crowded with swimmers.

Here are slide safety tips:

  • Never use the slide alone.
  • Make certain the slide has been installed to manufacturer specs.
  • Ensure routine maintenance is undertaken to make certain pool is secure.
  • Know the weight limits of the pool slide.
  • Only one person at a time should be going down the slide.
  • Always go down the slide feet first.
  • Make certain no one is at the end of the slide when you come out the chute

Pools are a great, fun addition to your backyard and as with anything your family undertakes, do it safely and use common sense!
