Regional swimming pool care tips, SwimRight Pool Service contractors explain
Whether you own a swimming pool in the “sunbelt” or the “snow belt” of the country there are similarities in pool care and there are differences. Regional swimming pool care tips are items that your pool contractor will be well-versed with, but the swimming pool contractors from SwimRight Pool Service and Repair wanted to let you know the differences.
In the sunbelt — those areas in the southern part of the country — Arizona, Florida, California, etc. typically don’t have to deal with freezing and frost as those who live in the snow belt do. Pool owners in the sunbelt are prone to periods of extreme heat and drought.
Pool owners in the sunbelt don’t have to worry about their pool being subjected to expansion and contraction of the pool during a heat wave or a freeze. An advantage to owning a swimming pool in the sunbelt is that you could potentially swim year-round. Because there isn’t a concern with freezing temperatures the pool water — with a little help from a pool heater and the water is swimmable even in the months of the year in which snow belt pool owners are looking longingly at their pools that are covered in snow.
Regional swimming pool care tips
When you live in the sunbelt, though drought is an issue as is water evaporation. If you live in an area of the country that rations water for outdoor use, you will want to use a pool cover to help cut back on the evaporation so you’re not continually filling the pool. High temperatures and drought can lead to your pool deck cracking or shifting, it’s important to keep the soil conditions around the pool as consistent as possible. Water the grass surrounding the pool once the sun has gone down.
In the snow belt the area experiences months and months of temperatures below freezing and even sub-zero during the fall and winter months. Because of this, the ground will contract during cold temperatures and expand during the summer. This could lead to cracking in the pool structure. Gunite is not the best pool construction material because of the expansion and contracting for pool owners in the snow belt. Vinyl liner and fibreglass pools are your best option as they will expand and contract.
Snow and ice on the pool cover during the winter is a concern and your pool contractor will offer you advice on how to keep the ice from damaging the cover and the pool itself.
In the snow belt you will need to have your pool winterized to help protect it from the elements in the winter months. Your pool contractor will perform the winterization of the pool, its water and the pool equipment.
Being a swimming pool owner is fun and exciting, but there are differences in the care and maintenance that goes into a pool and these vary by the region of the country in which you live.
