One question our customers ask us is, “Why is the pool water cloudy?” It’s not an answer that is quick to provide a solution for, but we do work with our customers and with those pool owners who typically do their own pool maintenance if they find the pool water has gotten cloudy.

Why is the pool water cloudy?
The waterin a swimming pool can become cloudy for many reasons which include:
- Everything around your pool can cause lead to cloudy water. Those items include: weather, trees, dust and dirt, sun, people, bacteria.
- If the swimming pool filter isn’t working correctly or if you’re not running the filter for as many hours per day as recommended, the water can get cloudy. Be aware that most filters and pumps should be run at least eight hours per day — in some instances, longer.
- If the pool water chemicals are not balanced properly that can lead to cloudy water.
There are times you may find the pool water becoming cloudy after you’ve shocked it. If you haven’t used the correct amount of chlorine to perform the shock, the pool water can become cloudy. This cloudiness will clear up; keep the pool filter running until it happens.
What can you do to clear up cloudy pool water? Using a pool clarifier on a weekly basis will help prevent cloudy water from being an issue in your pool.
