Arizona monsoon pool care
It has seemed to be unseasonably wet this year so far, don’t you think? It’s not that Arizona doesn’t need it, but our swimming pools’ water can get out of balance if not properly cared for, especially during frequent and heavy rains. Arizona monsoon pool care is different than in other areas of the country that aren’t prone to monsoons and the dust stores that seem to go hand-in-hand. The swimming pool service contractors from SwimRight Pool Service and Repair understand this and work with their customers to assure the pools come through the storms in great shape with healthy, balanced water!
When you hear that a monsoon is headed toward your neighborhood, it’s time to “batten down the hatches” if you’re home and able to do that. If you’re not home, you may find your pool full of dirt and dust and even a lawn chair or two! Here are suggestions to make pool clean up following a monsoon if you’re not able to get the pool covered in time to protect it.

Once the storm has passed, here are suggestions to help with clean up. Monsoon weather brings heavy rain, which tosses chemicals out of balance and brings in dust and debris, a combination that leads to bacteria growth.
Keep your pool safe before, during and after the monsoon:
- Don’t drain the pool. The weight of the water will keep the pool “grounded” and this is important if the ground becomes saturated. “Floating” of the shell can occur and leads to damage in the plumbing and electricity.
- Store loose pool accessories and outdoor living furniture.
- Turn off the electricity. This prevents damage and power surges.
- The pool should be covered to prevent dust from being blown into the water and clogging the filter. A mesh cover is best during a rain storm but won’t keep dust out of the water.
After the storm has passed, call us to schedule a pool cleaning. It’s possible te pool will need to be super-chlorinated after the storm. Here is what we will do after the storm:
- Skim debris.
- Empty and clean skimmer baskets
- Pool equipment will be inspected before electricity is turned on.
- Pool will be vacuumed
- Pool water will be shocked then balanced.
- You’ll probably be advised to run the filter for about ten hours to assure chemicals are thoroughly circulated.
If you find that your pool contractor will not be able to attend to your pool quickly, ask him for advice on what you should be doing to protect your pool until he arrives.
