Starting your pool repairs at the end of 2016 means your pool will be ready for the summer 2017 season with no down time.

What if your pool is leaking, though? You cannot wait until it’s time for a pool repair project. A leaking pool needs to be addressed as soon as you suspect there is a problem. How can you tell if there is a leak? The pool may be losing water at a rapid rate that you can equate to evaporation.

Also, if you see puddles around the pool, that is an indication of a leak. When we come out to inspect your pool for potential leaks, here are some swimming pool repair tips and what we do to address leaking pools:swimming pool tips

  1. We will check to see if there truly is a leak. Even before we get there we may ask you to perform the “bucket test” to determine if there is a leak or if you’re losing water due to evaporation because of the triple digit temps we’ve been experiencing in Scottsdale, Arizona for the past few weeks. If, after doing the bucket test it appears there is a leak we will pay a service visit. The bucket test takes 24 hours.
  2. Turning on the filter system allows us to see if water is being lost then. We will examine the backwash area, perform a pressure test. We may need to dig up some of the plumbing to determine whether the leak is underground.
  3. If you have a vinyl liner swimming pool, a pinhole could lead to a loss of vast amounts of water. We will inspect the liner to see if we can pinpoint a leak. Depending on the size and location of a rip or tear we may need to lower the water levels to effect the repair. If the leak is not able to be repaired we will explain the process for a liner replacement project. Even concrete pools can leak! If the pool has cracks in the shell that is an obvious area of repair. In some cases though we may need to add food coloring to the water near potential cracks. If the pool is leaking, the food coloring will disappear into the crack. Depending on the size and location of the crack, we may be able to patch it and the pool will be as good as new.

It is sometimes difficult to determine whether your pool is leaking, whether the kids are just being overly enthusiastic in their splashing of the water or if the water levels are going down because of evaporation. If you suspect a leak, give us a call so we can inspect it and give you peace of mind.
