What’s up with the pool plumbing? It’s probably not something you think about regularly, but behind the walls of your swimming pool there is a LOT going on. The plumbing back there is an intricate piping system that keeps the pool plugging along.

If you’re a household plumber, then you can probably address the inner workings of your swimming pool plumbing, but if you don’t excel at household plumbing you may want to leave the pool plumbing up to the professionals. The main reason pool owners think about the pool plumbing, the pool service contractors from SwimRight Pool Service and Repair say is because they think the pool is leaking.

What’s up with the pool plumbing?

Any pool owner who is interested in fixing or installing plumbing traps or drains in the swimming pool, there are little secrets to make life easier.

Thise secrets include:

  1. Hand tightening of pipes. Whether you’re installing a new drain or repairing a sink trap you need to ensure everything that has been put together is tight enough to not cause leaks but not so tight that it could cause problems if you need to loosen it later. You could always tighten it up later, snug it up now. Plumbing is designed in a manner that makes hand tightening is important. This means you need to not use all of your strength to tighten the pipes, but make them snug enough to not leak.
  2. After plumbing has been installed, test it before you close up the walls and seal the plumbing inside. Test the drain by running water through the plastic drain pipes and look for leaks. If any leaks occur, all you need to do it tighten the plumbing drain parts a little more (make sure the pipe itself hasn’t sprung a leak).
  3. For most home and pool owners, the right kind of tools are another secret to easy plumbing. You will definitely want to have a pipe wrench. These wrenches can be adjusted to fit whichever pipe dimension you’re working with. Other tools on the must-have list are screwdriver, washers and some PTFE tape.
