The swimming pool contractors from SwimRight Pools explain you should budget for pool repairs just as you budget for other home repairs or equipment replacement. Swimming pools require ongoing maintenance and service to keep them in tip top shape, but equipment wears out, liners get torn and upgrades simply need to be made.

Major repairs and renovations should be left to a pool service contractor, but you may be able to perform small small repairs if you’re a handy man (or woman.) Prior to handling a pool repair, ask us for advice; you don’t want to cost yourself more money because a repair you tried didn’t work out quite like you’d planned.

Budget for pool repairs

  • Concrete, aka gunite, pools will need to be acid washed. At some point it will need to be replastered. The length of time before you need to do that will rely on many factors — talk with your pool contractor to gain a better understanding.
  • Fiberglass pool may blister, bubble or crack. Bubbles, blisters and cracks can be repaired with a fiberglass repair kit. You can purchase this from your swimming pool service contractor. If you find the fiberglass is losing its color, it is a more difficult — some would say impossible — fix as it’s not easy to match the color exactly.
  • Vinyl liner pools are the easiest for a do-it-yourselfer to If you locate the source of a leak or rip, a vinyl repair kit may solve the issue. Keep a vinyl liner repair kit on hand. Depending on where the rip is, you may be able to repair the pool without draining it.

Pool equipment issues may be noted by your pool contractor before they need to be repaired or replaced and if that’s the case you can begin saving for the repair or replacement without having to worry about taking out a loan for the fix.

Keeping up with pool maintenance and repair and service will help assure your pool and its equipment will live a long and healthy life!
