How to prepare for a swimming pool remodeling project

Preparing for a pool remodel

How to prepare for a swimming pool remodeling project is a question the swimming pool contractors from SwimRight Pool Service and Repair get asked quite regularly. While a pool remodeling project may not be as big an interruption to your family routine as a new pool installation is, you could still be looking at heavy machinery and many contractors in and out of your backyard — depending on the complexity of your pool remodeling and repair project.

When will you know whether your pool needs to be remodeled? You can certainly ask your pool contractor to supply you wtih a list of “must do” items and to that you can add your “want to do” items for your pool remodel. The must dos will be those that could lead to pool damage if not addressed or it could be adding new pool equipment that is more energy efficient or it could be to update your pool by adding in accessories. Whatever your budget can handle, is where you will begin when you’re talking with your pool contractor about your project.

How to prepare for a swimming pool remodeling project

Regardless of the material your pool is constructed from, there are unique needs that will be addressed in a pool remodel, including:

  1. Concrete pools will have to be acid washed to brighten up the look of the pool and to remove stains. A concrete pool will eventually, need to be resurfaced to remove and repair chipped or cracked plaster.
  2. Fiberglass pools could blister, bubble or crack. This can be caused by the sun, the pool chemicals or a combination. Blisters, bubbles and cracks can be repaired in some cases without the pool being drained.
  3. Vinyl-lined swimming pool could rip or tear or fade. Small rips in the liner can be repaired with an underwater vinyl replacement and repair kit. If th rip is too large or on a seam, you will probably need to rely on the services of a pool professional. Remember NEVER drain the pool to make repairs if you’re not an experienced pool professional as this can lead to many issues that could cost thousands to repair.

Swimming pool contractors work with pool owners to maintain and service your swimming pool year round and are also your go-to person for pool remodeling and repair projects.
