Should you have an outdoor kitchen? SwimRight Pool contractors offer tips

Adding an outdoor kitchen is certainly something that will let you move more of your living to the out of doors this summer and when you have a swimming pool, you don’t want to have to go indoors. Should you have an outdoor ktichen? This question may arise when you’re faced with having to leave the fun of the pool to cook a meal. The pool contractors from SwimRight Pool Service & Repair offer a few items to consider.

Should you have an outdoor kitchen?

Here are items to consider when contemplating an outdoor kitchen

  1. Do you have a foundation in place that can support an outdoor kitchen? If not, that will have to be part of the project and will need to be budgeted for. Pay attention to the area around the outdoor kitchen as you don’t want water to be in the area as it can make the floor slippery. You also don’t want grease or other cooking items to get on the surface and make it slippery for swimmers.
  2. How will you protect the kitchen from the elements? Do you have an area where it will be protected or will you need to build a gazebo or other covered space to protect the outdoor kitchen and grill. You also want to make sure the area is well ventilated — maynot not something you’d think about when you have an outdoor kitchen, but airflow should be considered. The kitchen needs to be placed away from any possible fire hazards as well — trees, house, other out buildings.
  3. How big do you want your kitchen and what amenities do you want with it? Do you want an oven? A stovetop? Grill? Sink? Refrigerator and cupboards? Counterspace? Determining your budget will help you narrow down the items you will want as part of your kitchen. If your ideas are bigger than your budget, work on those items that are necessary and eventually add in the other items to complete the kitchen over time.

Will the kitchen be part of the outdoor living space by the pool or will it be set apart from that area? You will need to determine that and plan for the landscaping to add the ambiance you’re seeking for the entire outdoor area.
