SwimRight Swimming pool contractors in Scottsdale, Arizona understand that owning a swimming pool is fun (and almost necessary when you live in Arizona), but pool ownership isn’t for everyone. If you and your family are wondering should you get a swimming pool? You want to look at the fun parts of pool ownership as well as the responsibility that comes from being a pool owner.

Should you get a swimming pool?

We’ll bet you know all about the benefits of owning a pool:

  1. A staycation spot
  2. A place to exercise
  3. A place to cool off
  4. A place to relax
  5. A built in party spot

But how much thought have you put into the potential drawbacks of being a pool owner? It’s certainly best to go into pool ownership with your eyes open!

Any potential “drawbacks” are more than worth it when you are frolicking in the pool, escaping the heat and just enjoying the beauty of your backyard and swimming pool area.

  1. The cost of maintenance and upkeep. Factor in the cost of the pool construction itself, the cost of maintenance and the increases to your home utility bills and you can be looking at a chunk of change. As long as you budget for it, you will probably be fine! Just don’t go into pool ownership without knowing all of the potential costs.
  2. It could spring a leak. This is, admittedly, rare, but it does happen and can happen more frequently with a vinyl liner pool. Even a fiberglass or concrete pool can “spring” a leak and that could be caused by faulty plumbing or other issues hidden behind the pool walls.
  3. If you don’t understand swimming pool chemistry and chemical balancing you may overcompensate and end up using too many chemicals and that can cost you more money and lead to eye irritation and dry skin. Many pool owners find it cost them less money to hire a pro than it does to do pool maintenance themselves.
  4. Bugs, birds and rodents may make an appearance. In Arizona, you may also see a scorpion or snake sunning themselves on the pool. Insects will be drawn to the water and the warmth of thd deck. Use a pool cover to keep critters out of the pool water and check for bugs before you jump in.
  5. Friends may come out of the woodwork to spend time in your swimming pool. Once you have your swimming pool, you will become very popular with friends and family.

We don’t think that any of the items listed above seem like drawbacks, they are items you may want to consider before taking the plunge!
