Is it time for a new swimming pool pump? This is a question the swimming pool contractors from SwimRight Pool Service and Repair in Scottsdale, AZ get asked all the time. Why? Because a malfunctioning or a pool pump that isn’t functioning as well as it should, can be costing you additional money.

When you have to budget to replace a swimming pool pump or other equipment, it isn’t as fun (or as visible) as adding a new pool liner, upgrading the outside pool space or adding a diving board or pool accessory, sometimes you need to upgrade those items that keep the pool running, but that you can’t see.

Is it time for a new swimming pool pump?

Depending on the age of your swimming pool and its equipment, you may want to have a talk with your pool service contractor and ask whether it’s time to upgrade and update or whether the pool equipment is functioning at its peak.

  1. Budget for replacement. If the pool pump doesn’t need to be replaced, but can be repaired at a cost that makes sense. What this means is that you don’t want to spend inordinate amounts of money to keep an old, inefficient pool pump running when you find you could have replaced it for the money you’ve spent to keep the old one running. Ask us when the pool pump reaches the point of “no return” and on diminishing return.
  2. A new, energy efficient pump will save you money on utility bills and on the amount of hours it will need to be run to perfom its task.
  3. A variable speed pump makes sense. A variable speed pump operates at a higher level when it’s being used to run the vacuum and at a lower, more energy efficient level when it’s being asked to simply circulate the water and turn over the pool water. An energy efficient pool pump may mean you need to run it fewer hours a day to perform the task that your old, energy inefficient pump was doing.

The next time we pay a service visit ask us to perform an inspection of your pool equipment to let you know what its estimated useful life is and whether it’s time to start saving for equipment replacement.
