You can take safety a step beyond the fence and here are some ways to enhance the safety of your swimming pool.
- A door alarm. Install this on any door in the house and it will sound an alarm if the door is opened without a code being input. This could keep curious children in the house and not out in the yard with the pool if you’re not available.
- Floating pool alarms. These devices float on the surface of the water and will sound an alarm if the water surface is broken — ie if there are ripples or waves in the water. This will require some work to set the sensitivity so it doesn’t go off if the wind blows or if a leaf falls into the water.
- Wristband technology. You can put a wrist band on your child that will sound an alarm if it gets wet. This technology works, as long as the child is wearing it. If your child is old enough to get out of doors, he may be old enough to get the wrist band off.
- Motion-activated security cameras. Set these cameras up around the pool itself or around the swimming pool fence. They will pick up motion and begin transmitting images to the house or your smart phone — think of the Nest cameras for example and how they work as an example.
