There are so many decisions that need to be made when talking with a swimming pool contractor from SwimRight Pool & Spa Repair. There are even more decisions when you are in the construction phase of the project. Talk with your pool contractor about how to avoid these 5 pool mistakes to get the most out of your pool project as you can.

Don’t commit these sins or make mistakes that you will regret later when you’re enjoying your swimming pool. These tips are for aesthetics, make the pool more environmentally friendly and cost-efficient.

How to avoid these 5 pool mistakes

  1. Not getting an automatic pool cleaner. If you have a pool you will want to automate as much as you can. An automatic pool cleaner can save you hours of time in pool care! Calculate what your time is worth then you can determine the return on the investment you’re making in your automatic pool cleaner.
  2. Choosing a sand filter. There are those who love and will only use a sand filter, but we know that using a cartridge filter will keep the pool water cleaner, longer. The cartridge filters trap more contaminants and keep the water cleaner, longer.
  3. Not investing in a variable speed pool pump. A single speed pool pump is not efficient — cost or environmentally-wise. A variable speed pool pump will cost more up front but you will reap the savings and benefit almost from day one. A variable speed motor is quieter and more energy efficient. It will work harder when it has to (vacuuming) and not as hard when it doesn’t need to (circulating the water).
  4. Installing incandescent pool lighting. LED lights are the way to go. They are energy efficient, can last for years and don’t run “hot.”
  5. Not looking at newer pool plaster options. Marcite pool plaster is tried and true and traditional. It is also the most vulnerable to deteriorating from the sun and chemicals and etching and staining. Colored quartz aggregate is a better finish.
